About the Afroplan Sponsorship
and how to get involved. |
Priority Students Needing Immediate Sponsorship
DrOf course, the sponsorship choice is completely yours. These students are currently in the most need for sponsorship. Each of them come from the poorest residence; it would be very beneficial for their entire residence if they acquire a proper education. We will not make the decision for you but have our priority set up since we do know the students quite well.
Sponsorship Program
Afroplan's Sponsorship Program strives to find individuals to fund tuition for a students private schooling where they can obtain a proper education. As more students become sponsored, more students can attend Afroplan, which makes it a very beneficial middle ground when transitioning from poverty within Usa River, Tanzania.
Currently in order to keep Afroplan going, Mr. Frank relies on his own capital or donations. He is constantly working multiple jobs to keep the school running and to continue serving the children of Usa River. He is barely making it out ahead, even through all his hard work. He highly relies on volunteers and donations to keep Afroplan alive. He does not have the capability to pursue his goals for Afroplan at this point. The break down of the Maua school fees are shown above the Afroplan Sponsorship Program fees. (Notice transport is shown in cost per term). There is an Afroplan adjusted cost of sponsoring a child. The idea behind this increase, is to simply increase the cost of school fees by approximately 5-10% (depending on volatility of the exchange rate) in order to cover international transfer fees. In addition, if your child will be boarding, a one-time $75.00 USD payment must be added to your school fees in order to cover additional costs for a mattress, bedding, and other living necessities. This will enable Afroplan Foundation to continue operating smoothly as no money will have to come out of Mr. Frank's pocket when a child is sponsored. The cost of school through Afroplan Sponsorship Program will remain relatively constant (this is subject to small changes if unforeseeable changes occur within the private school enrollment fees). There is a small difference in first year students fees and the continuing students fees. This can be seen in the fees breakdown photo above. The goal is to have majority of this difference go directly to Afroplan Foundation or the "emergency fund" for sponsored students. The part of the revenue that Afroplan Foundation receives will help towards the goals of Afroplan, the place that helped your sponsor child before you even knew they existed. The money that goes to the "emergency fund" for the sponsored students will provide sustainability to sponsorship operations. It will allow the sponsorship programs to provide a higher level of care to the sponsored children as they will frequently need updates in their school supplies and life necessities. The additional revenue that goes toward organization expenses will be used for your benefit as well. Part of the money will be used to hire a sponsorship communications manager. Feedback from the people that have currently been sponsoring a student through one of the international partner organizations determined that the sponsors want to feel connected with their sponsored students. The prime goal of this communications manager will to be a medium for connection between you and your sponsor student. They will make visits to each of the sponsored children's houses, take pictures, and help you communicate with your child. This will ensure that the student is in good health, and that he/she knows you actually care about his success in school and life. This way you will be much more connected to your sponsor student unlike many other sponsorship programs. In addition you will continue to receive report cards and updates from the school through the adviser. There are many future goals at Afroplan and within the partner organizations. To achieve these, there needs to be a sustainable income that can be used for the growth and stability of its programs. Big News!!!
All donations are Tax deductible in The United States of America through Nafasi Project, our partner Non-Profit organization. www.nafasiproject.org Once we have finished incorporating the Canadian non-profit organizations, all sponsorship's will be tax deductible within Canada. In setting up your sponsorship, contact the Afroplan partner below. Corey will triage you to the proper person depending on the country you come from. coreyreid@afroplanfoundation.com In doing so, possible students will be discussed. We currently have a list of students that are highest priority. We will give you a few options to choose from below, or you could browse the Who Are We page on this website to choose your own child. As we are continuously working with these students, we do know the ones that are in a highest amount of need. This tends to be due to understanding the places they come from, the age they are at (older students tend to get looked over in sponsorship programs), and the skill sets they have achieved at Afroplan. We feel like we are fully capable of setting you up with a child that completely fits your desire. Sponsorship fees will be sent to the respective countries non-profit bank accounts. The money will then be transferred to the Afroplan Foundation account. Mr. Frank will go on to enroll the sponsor child in Maua English Medium School. There are two options for payment: - two payments, once per term. - one payment, once per year. Depending on the sponsorship partner organization, there may be additional methods to setting up the sponsorship. Be sure to reach out if you have any questions. Once you have decided you are interested in sponsoring and money has been processed your sponsorship will begin. I do want to make it clear that this sponsorship is not to be taken lightly. You are committing to a child that you will be there to pay for at least their primary education (primary education is a minimum of 7 years depending on the amount of time spent in nursery school). If you wish, in the future, to continue sponsoring your child through secondary school and/or college, this can also be set up when the time comes. If sponsorship is a bit too much of a commitment and you wish to make a donation at this time instead. That is great! Visit our Donate Here page now to learn about how this can be done. Please email coreyreid@afroplanfoundation.com if you have any questions. Further, if you wish to make a donation at this time from America you can donate through the American non-profit organization Nafasi Project.www.nafasiproject.org Please email info@nafasiproject.org if you have any questions about donating to the American partner organization. |
Additional Information
Sponsorship in Tanzania is one of the only ways that students can attend a proper schooling system. Mr. Frank Tarimo has made it his goal to allow students to come to Afroplan to help them find sponsors around the world that can place the children in private school. The English medium school we are associated with is Maua English Medium school. It is located just outside of Usa River, Tanzania.
As for the schooling system there are two categories: Nursery section and Primary section.
In the nursery school section the kids are taught basic levels of the subjects prior to entering grade 1. They must pass an exam that proves they can understand and keep up with the students in grade 1. In nursery, there is a baby class, middle class, and preparatory class. These classes are not necessarily based on age since some kids get sponsored at 2 and some get sponsored when they are 8 or 9. It is just to prepare the students, much like preschool. They would not succeed if they were tossed directly into primary school.
Primary school consists of grades 1‐7. The classes taught at the school are:
‐ Grammar
‐ Arithmatic (Math)
‐ Science
‐ Kiswahili (Language in East Africa)
‐ Kusome (Reading in Kiswahili)
‐ Mwandiko (Hand writing in Kiswahili)
‐ Reading (English)
‐ Visual Skills
‐ Sports/Personality
‐ French
‐ Hand writing skills (English)
‐ Phonics
‐ Computer Class
Further, there are two options for school. There is boarding school and day school. In boarding school they are supplied three meals and live at the school. In day school they are supplied breakfast and lunch; however, transportation is an extra expense as a bus will pick them up in the town wherever they live. Determining the type of school is between Mr. Frank and the parents or guardians of the child. This is important because we want to ensure the parents or guardians are part of the decision making. Mr Frank will provide advice and the parent/guardian will make the decision. We believe its better this way.
